Kitchen Station

Keep a binder with all the necessary information to make properly dosing insulin significantly easier. Accurately dosing insulin begins with measuring your food portions and having nutrition information on hand. Keep a kitchen scale nearby to help make sure your servings are measured correctly. Keeping a calculator in the kitchen has also been helpful. This binder has created a seamless transition for us when leaving our T1D kiddos with other caretakers. It helps take the stress out of meals and snacks. Keeping a favorite foods list handy helps so you don't have to look up food, serving size, and carbs every time. Using meal worksheets is great for making meals and snacks easier to dose insulin for. It helps to have all the details and see patterns to make insulin adjustment decisions. We like to look back at previous meals to repeat. Using a meal planner to plan ahead helps us make healthier decisions.

Supply Station

Keep the things you are using on a regular basis in an easy to access location. When we started out on MDI I needed all the supplies to be easily accessible throughout the day. Having a visually appealing organization system helped me, and having tic tacs for my kids to eat while getting an injection or finger poke helped them :)

Site Change Basket

Keeping a surprise-filled basket on hand has helped ease the discomfort our kids feel when we do site change. We also make sure to include a soothing healing balm in the basket, so we don't forget to apply it to their old sites.
